Clinical Neurology

Location: Sinai/Grace Hospital

Coordinator: Dr. William Leuchter

Objectives:

  1. To develop basic skills of neurological history taking and neurological examination.
  2. To develop technical neurologic skills a. lumbar puncture b. tensilon test.
  3. To develop an approach in the development and management of differential neurologic diagnoses.
  4. To develop an understanding of neuroradiologic and neurophysiologic procedures and their rational use in the evaluation of neurologic patient.
  5. To confidently assess and manage neurologic emergencies.

Methods:

  1. Transitional interns will be required to workup patients commensurate with their demonstrated abilities. These patients will be formally presented to clinical rounder for analysis and discussion.
  2. Intens will be expected to follow management of consult patients at the discretion of the rounder.
  3. Consult rounds on all patients are performed on a daily basis.
  4. X-ray rounds are performed at least twice per week.
  5. Mandatory attendance at all neuroscience conferences.
  6. The intern will be assigned a topic for discussion to be presented at the end of the elective to the entire consult service.
