Adult Neurosurgery

Location: Detroit Receiving Hospital

Coordinator: Dr. Daniel B. Michael

Objectives:

The transitional intern will be exposed to modern general neurosurgery at Detroit Receiving Hospital. This hospital serves as the major trauma institution for the Detroit Medical Center. Emphasis on the neurosurgical service includes traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and neuro critical care.

Methods:

The intern will serve as an integral member of the neurosurgical team of Detroit Receiving Hospital. He/she will assist in the preop and postop management of patients both on the general medical/surgical floors and in the neurotrauma ICU and spinal cord unit. The intern will be encouraged to observe and participate in neurosurgical procedures in the operating room commensurate with his/her abilities.
