Code Blues are announced over the Hospital Public Announcement System and via the Code Blue beepers.
To request a Code Blue announcement, dial 116 from any hospital phone. Request the Code Blue, give the name of the Unit , the room number, and the bed number (for example, 4-West Room 400 Bed 3). If the medical emergency is occurring in a non-patient care area, just mention the area (for example, 4-Main Endoscopy, Cafeteria, Front Lobby...etc...).
You MUST be BLS/ACLS certified in order to participate in a Code Blue situation.
If you are assigned to the Code Team for that day, walk briskly to the Code site when you hear the announcement.
Upon arrival to the Code site, identify the Code Team Leader
and follow the BLS/ACLS protocol as outlined in;

Please do not leave a Code Blue situation without the Code Team Leader's permission.
For Code Team Leaders, once the Code is complete, please write a note in the chart, complete the Code Blue Form located on the crash cart, inform the patient's attending physician, and ask patient's family to come to the hospital ASAP (using words like, "your family member's condition has changed, it is very important to come to the hospital now to discuss your family member's condition with the physician.")
